Jade Curtiss : CHARACTER PROFILE
Hi! I am going to simply Outline how Jade characters are and how his characteristics are developed as the game progresses.
Quick Description
Jade Curtiss a.k.a Jade Balfour (Malkuth origin) is elder brother to Nephry Curtiss. Jade was welcomed in the House of Curtiss when was still just a kid. He appeared initially as a Colonel in Malkuth Military and was in charge of unit using Tartarus (land dreadnaught/land ship). Despite his young looks, he was already a senior with wealth of knowledge over history, politics, culture as well as science. This is proven by his thoughtful opinions in every discussion.
Surprisingly, Jade had numerous hidden histories as his background, starting from his gift as prodigy, genius scientist at early age, masterful fonic arte user, close ties to one of Six God Generals (Dist the Rose / Dist the Reaper) as well as his infamous reputation known as Jade the Necromancer. He also had a strong relationship to Hod war as his personal story later gave us a hint of what exactly happened at Isle of Hod although there were short videos nor images describing what Hod exactly looked like.
Personality
Jade has always been calm, sarcastic, and tactical in any situations. He loved playing innocent despite the fact that he knew things from the very first place. What amused Jade the most was his success in teasing Luke then making someone get on their nerves while he hated ones who pried his past. He managed to reach his high rank as Colonel in Third Division by his devoted dedication to Malkuth Empire as his good sense of right and wrong. He was also good childhood friend to Emperor Peony the Ninth, making him a close adjutant. Also, Elder McGovern who was the mayor of lovely St. Binah had a long history with Jade (war related perhaps).
In Battle
Jade is a perfect NUKER with using one short spear. Although his mobility is low, his casting time is medium, so if you love combo your fonic attack, he is the best pick for high damage with novice-medium fonic arte. Sadly, expect no healing arte from him, for he is prone to offense position compared to balance both categories. Do Be CAREFUL when you want him to attack enemies with his spear as his swing is quick yet restricted, so it is best use his spear-based arte for opening combo. Very recommended to protect him while casting; otherwise, he will restart casting from zero.
Early Game
Jade is the most mature party member whose style is well-rounded adult, making him a true sage among others. I can say he loved admiration and acknowledgement for his doings at some point. He never lost his nerve over any trigger, and preferred pacifist lifestyle as to save energy, time, and mind. However, he took everything into account in order to make the best suggestions for the team and ION’s safety. OH Yea, Ion requested Jade’s help personally because Mohs tried to keep him confined in Daath instead of allowing him to be Emissary of peace. His main mission was to avert war by escorting ION safely to Kimlascan King while delivering personal letter from the Emperor.
In serious mode, he repulsed the idea of human/new world replica creation mentioned by Legretta the Quick after a fight before enterig Akzeriuth, he never wanted to have others create same mistake as he did with human experiment. Also, he tried his best to save as many lives as possible during the tour of saving Akzeriuth, evacuating Engeve citizens from war, finding best solution to lower Outer Land safely.
In Brief
I ENJOY LITTLE THINGS, I NEVER BOTHER WITH SIMPLETONS, ANALYZE FIRST THEN DECIDE, STAY SARCASTIC, AND BE SMART instead of EMOTIONAL IN ANY SITUATION.
Mid-End Game
Jade was a strong character, for he never blamed anybody for any bad situation. As matter of fact, Jade just moved on then adapted to the situation, but this did not mean he was reluctant to give second chance while watching over their progress. The farther the story progressed, the more critical the situation got, making Jade’s bond stronger than before with other party members as he finally could let go of his shady past as well as reveal his wrongdoings during his youth. Not even a single thing he did not regret back then.
Aside from his tactical thinking, he hated the idea of teaching for no reason derived from his dialogue with Luke before fighting Van for the 1st time. Dist the Rose / Dist the Reaper have always had a strict rivalry and grudge against Jade because of jealousy on his high intelligence level since they were kids. When Jade was still enrolled in Neblilim’s school (the major reason was to understand how powerful Seventh Fonist power), he already found the idea of human replica creation called “Fomicry”, marking the most advanced fontech ever recorded in science history all over Auldrant.
Since Jade was a kid, Jade already mastered fonic artes only adults could learn with certain degree. Seemingly, he sought pleasure in killing monsters without second thought be it harmful or harmless, scaring out Nephry. But, Jade only tried to gain genuine knowledge from his scientific experiments instead of being mad scientist. His answer to Luke after Luke met Nephry was rather neutral instead of expressing regret or satisfaction.
The Necromancer
Regarding the title “The Necromancer”, he was rumoured to gather corpses after battle for his experiment of resurrection, but Jade only needed their data for Fomicry process which would eventually lead to Replica (no purpose, complete memory).
This Fomicry technology caused the massive destruction of isle Hod or so-called Hod war as Jade decided to demolish (under order of Peony’s father) all records and results as to prevent it from falling into wrong hand then fueled Malkuth citizen hatred for Kimlascan over the Hod destruction. Van was a surviving test subject from this experiment then unleashed great blast of seventh fonon, destroying Hod into pieces.
His ambitious drive led him to a failed experiment, causing fire incident and heavily injuring Professor Gelda Nebilim (his mentor, a kind, compassionate, and loving one).
Although Jade managed to copy all data of Nebilim before she succumbed to her injury then passed away; However, the same person, in replica, did not possess the same personality before. WE HAD TO FIGHT NEBILIM! And she was OP!! So much for Jade’s ambition to resurrect his beloved one only to kill her again.
Jade and Luke as well as Natalia are just regular travelling buddy, fellow Malkuth citizen to Guy, guardian to Anise Tatlin and Fon Master ION, fellow solider-in-arms to Tear (despite the difference in Military branch) the solidarity remains, close childhood friend & rival in science to Dist the Rose (Saphir/Dist actually made it a rivalry because of his obsession over Jade’s prodigious abilities), close friend to Penony the Ninth and Nephry when they grew up together in Keterburg (everlasting snowy town), student to Professor Gelda Nebilim .
